Emily Joan Dowd, RYT200, received her doctorate in 2010, studying Eighteenth Century British Literature and specializing in feminist writing. She is currently an Assistant Professor of English at Bainbridge College, in Bainbridge, GA.

Emily is a lifelong athlete, but her journey towards yoga began only five years ago, as a search for relief from nagging injury and chronic pain. That search culminated in a passion for yoga and a desire to share it with others. She was certified as a teacher in May of 2011 through Open Hearts Teacher Training, under Kate Greer / Hanspal Kaur Khalsa.

Emily Joan Dowd Emily continues to study a variety of practices, enjoying the freedom to explore and experiment with all that various schools have to offer. She has attended intensive workshops with Junior III Iyengar Instructor, Sharon Conroy, Director of the BKS Iyengar Yoga Center, here at Namasté Yoga, and with Ashtanga and Vinyasa Instructor, Sarasvati Devi of Radiant Transitions. Her practice is inspired by Iyengar, Anusara, and Vinysasa styles, but she has also experienced (and admires) a variety of practices, including Kundalini and Shadow Yoga.

For her, yoga is an endless discussion between the individual body and his/her intensions, the individual’s intensions and the world around them.
