Ellen Shapiro, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist, certified sex therapist, and certified Kripalu Yoga teacher who has been teaching yoga since 2000. She has an active psychotherapy practice and incorporates mind/body approaches and spiritual awareness into all her work. She has long been interested in positive health and wellness, and the integration of mind/body/spirit through yoga, psychotherapy, bodywork, and energy transformation practices.
She has been facilitating groups and workshops for over 25 years. Ellen began practicing yoga as a teen and returned to the practice seriously around 1989. She was certified as a teacher through Loretta Armer’s yoga teacher training in 2000 and began teaching locally in Tallahassee at that time. She completed 200-Hour Kripalu yoga teacher training in 2001, becoming a certified Kripalu Yoga Teacher. In 2013 she completed her 500-Hour Professional Level Yoga Teacher Training in Pranakriya Yoga with Yoganand Michael Carroll of Radiant Well-being Yoga Studio. Ellen is currently pursuing an additional certification in Pranakriya Yoga Therapy, and is excited to be able to offer more specific healing elements of yoga practice to her students and clients, both in classes and individual sessions. Ellen is one of the original co-owners of Namasté Yoga. Since 2002 she has taught three to five regular classes a week at the studio, as well as teaching workshops and leading retreats locally and nationally. She has a strong interest in yoga as a body/mind healing modality. Ellen has studied energy healing with Bart tenBerge and has trained in various other yoga and mind/body healing techniques. She enjoys weaving these elements into both her yoga teaching and psychotherapy practice. Ellen’s teaching style is uplifting, compassionate, and sensitive to student’s needs. She is known for her responsive and creative blending of yoga practices in her classes.
