Yoga for Healthy Backs with Marney Richards

Yoga can be an integral part of keeping us healthy and strong, and more people are turning to yoga practice to enhance their health and wellbeing. There is a growing body of research that supports the therapeutic benefits of yoga for many health conditions. One recent study looked at a yoga course designed specifically for people with back pain and found it was safe and effective for easing back pain.
In this workshop, we’ll explore different ways to use yoga and movement to help keep our backs flexible and strong. We’ll look at the yoga study and practice some of the gentle poses used in the study course. Our practice will include breathwork, stretching, and asanas to increase mobility of the upper back, hips and low back. We will discuss the importance of a strong core for a healthy back and practice movements and asanas for core and pelvic floor strength and stability. Using tools can be a great way to help ease muscle tension, so we’ll roll with tennis balls and yoga balls to help release tight a
reas. There will be time and space for questions and discussion, and class will finish with a supported savasana to integrate the effects of the practice.
All needed equipment and props will be provided. If you like, feel free to bring your own mat/ blanket. Please wear comfortable clothes you can stretch in and bring water. It's best to eat lightly or not at all and to hydrate well before the class.
This moderate level class is best suited for those who are physically active and/or have some yoga experience. Beginners and more experienced practitioners are welcome.
