Namasté Yoga offers Community Yoga as a gift to our community almost every Friday from 5:30–6:30 p.m. The class is open to everyone—those new to yoga, as well as current Namasté or other yoga students. All community yoga classes are taught at a gentle/beginner level in order to be accessible to all. We pass on 100% of the donations we collect directly to Refuge House, a local organization that provides direct services to battered women, their children and sexual assault survivors, as well as works to eliminate the conditions in society that allow such violence to continue.
Seva is a Sanskrit word meaning “selfless service,” a core tenet of yoga and part of Namasté’s vision to support and contribute to our community in a positive way. Our Community Yoga class is part of Namaste Yoga's seva, grounding us in our connections with others. Seva is a spiritual practice that expands the hearts of both giver and receiver. We at Namaste are humbled and honored to contribute to this life-affirming circle of giving and receiving in our community. Our teachers donate their time to teach this class, and receive many gifts in return--the satisfaction of making a contribution to our community, the challenges of teaching a diverse group of students, meeting many new and interesting people. Students receive the gift of free yoga classes from many different teachers, and also give back by donating financially to Refuge House as they can. The donations to Refuge House help the women and children there reclaim their power, change their own lives, and then move back out into the community. The clients Refuge House receive financial, emotional, and practical support, and many then move back into the community and continue the cycle by offering various forms of community service. Thus we are all part of the circle of giving and receiving. We at Namaste´ Yoga feel so fortunate to be able to serve our community in this way.
Another benefit of our Community Yoga classes is that students have the opportunity to experience a different teacher each week, teaching their particular style of yoga. The community classes offer you an easy way to explore different yoga styles and new yoga teachers.
We invite you to come and donate whatever amount you can to Refuge House, or to accept the class as our gift. No pre-registration is necessary. The class fills on a first-come, first-serve basis, so we recommend you arrive and get settled as early as 5:15 if possible.
We welcome you to this special class at our studio!
